Fall Trend-Capes and Ponchos I know this has been bugging all of you for a while. What is the difference between a cape and a poncho and should I have one or the other in my closet this fall? Capes and ponchos are a hot fall trend. They are everywhere. A cape is a short sleeveless garment that drapes over the shoulders and fastens about the neck, that may or may not have slits in the front to enable the wearer’s arms to come through. It is heavier than a cardigan but lighter than a coat. A poncho is a blanket-like garment with a hole cut in the center so that it can be slipped over the wearer’s head. It is mostly used to protect against bad weather and is not really a fashion staple. Lets focus on the cape. As always remember what your body shape is and work with that. If you don't know, go to www.holobi.com and sign up for our DRESbook service. It will be launching in October and will give you all the information you need to make a great purchase. Capes have a lot of volume so that needs to be balanced by keeping the rest of your outfit very streamlined. Put a cape with a pencil skirt and high heels or a shorter skirt and boots. If you are on the shorter side, make sure the cape is shorter and the same if you are tall. A long cape on a short person can make you look even shorter. There are capes with belts which works great to accentuate a waist for diamond and ruby shapes. There are lots of capes to choose from so just try a few on and have fun! |
