French fashion designer, Yves Saint Laurent was right when he said, “Fashion fades but style is eternal.”

Every season there is a new crop of absolute “must have” fashionable fads for our wardrobes. Most aren’t suitable for anyone but the models walking the runway. This is why it’s important to understand what “style” really means and how to create your own style to express your personality, values and goals in life.
Style is defined in Webster’s dictionary as:  a distinctive manner of expression, as in writing or speaking; a distinctive custom of behaving or conducting oneself; a particular technique with which something is done, created or performed.

In my opinion, a truly “stylish” person is someone that is attuned to the people and world around them, is appropriately dressed in any situation, behaves in a consistent and responsible way and is polite and kind to others.  A stylish person does all these things in a way that specifically reflects their unique personality, values and goals.

So, while fashion is a fun way to express ourselves, it is merely a tool to aid us in creating our personal style, which is about much more than just the clothes we wear.  Jackie Kennedy is a marvelous example of a stylish woman, her clothes and appearance were always fashionable and beautiful. Her behavior, communication skills, body language and treatment of others was beyond reproach, even in her darkest hours.

Who do you think is a truly stylish person?
